A Century of Faith
Over a century of faithful gathering
Since 1922
The Rajasthan Christian Convention has been held annually since its founding in 1922, more than 100 unbroken years of Christians gathering in Ajmer. Through colonial rule and independence, through wars and famines, through pandemics and rapid change, the convention has endured as a testament to the faith and perseverance of the Christian community in Rajasthan.
Below is a timeline of key milestones in the convention's history, from its humble beginnings to the landmark jubilee celebrations that have marked its journey.
Jubilee Milestones
Timeline
A small group of Christian pastors and believers in Rajasthan organized the first annual convention in Ajmer. The gathering was held at Husband Memorial School, which would remain the home of the convention for over a century. The vision was simple: a regular time for Christians across the region to gather for Bible teaching, worship, and fellowship.
Through the years of the independence movement, the convention continued faithfully. Attendance grew steadily as word spread among Christian communities in Rajasthan. The convention became a recognized gathering on the Christian calendar of the region, attracting preachers and speakers from across India.
The convention celebrated its 25th anniversary, the Silver Jubilee, with a special extended programme. The milestone was a time of thanksgiving and reflection on the faithfulness of God through a quarter century of gathering. Special speakers and a larger attendance marked the occasion.
Following Indian independence in 1947, the convention continued under the leadership of local church committees. The transition of the nation brought new opportunities and challenges for Christian communities in Rajasthan, but the annual convention remained a stable anchor for fellowship and spiritual growth. The programme expanded to include dedicated sessions for youth and women.
Fifty years of gathering was celebrated with the Golden Jubilee convention. This was one of the best-attended conventions in the event's history at that time, drawing Christians from across Rajasthan and beyond. The celebrations included historical retrospectives, special commemorative publications, and thanksgiving services.
The convention continued through decades of social change in India. As urbanization increased and transportation improved, attendance grew and the geographical reach of the convention expanded. The format of the five-day programme was refined over this period into the structure that continues today: morning Bible teaching, afternoon programmes, evening evangelistic meetings, and special youth sessions.
The 75th anniversary Platinum Jubilee was another landmark celebration. A commemorative history of the convention was compiled and distributed to attendees. The jubilee drew exceptional attendance and was a time of deep thanksgiving for the legacy of faith that had been passed down through three generations of the Rajasthan Christian community.
The convention entered a new century carrying the weight of its heritage and the vitality of ongoing renewal. A photo gallery documenting conventions from various years was established. The guest choir became a regular and beloved feature of the evening sessions. Speaker invitations expanded to draw preachers from across India who could minister to the growing and diverse attendance.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many institutions, and the convention was not immune. In-person gatherings were not possible during the height of the pandemic. The organizing committee maintained the community through alternative means during this period, and the convention returned to in-person gathering as soon as it was safe to do so.
One hundred years. The centenary convention was a historic milestone and one of very few Christian institutions in India to reach this landmark. The 2022 gathering was a celebration of faith, heritage, and community spanning a full century. It was a moment to honor those who founded the convention, those who sustained it through difficult decades, and those who carry it forward today.
The convention enters its second century with renewed purpose. The organizing committee continues the annual tradition, inviting speakers, preparing the venue, and welcoming attendees from across Rajasthan and beyond. The 103rd convention will be held 7–11 November 2026. The story continues.
